PARTICIPATION IN TWO INTERNATIONAL ART EXHIBITIONS : GIBRALTAR (BRITISH OVERSEAS TERRITORY) & ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES
The co-founders of my May 2024 Rock Retreat writing and illustration seminar in Gibraltar invited women artists from around the world to create a zine using the theme: Home. I jumped at the opportunity to write my zine, Walking in Daddy’s Footsteps, based on a personal story.
When I was in elementary school, an unexpected blizzard prevented cars from getting through to my school. My dad and his size 13 feet sprang into action. He rescued me and my sister, along with several neighborhood kids, and safely led us home by instructing us to walk in his footsteps. My superhero!
The art exhibition can be viewed at the Gibraltar Exhibitions of Modern Art through March. A second exhibition runs through August at the Youlou Arts Centre in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, an eastern Caribbean island.
“An evil snow bully has invaded our quiet school playground. Behold the heft of the monster, pulsing blood-shot eyes, and razor sharp fangs. Surely, poised to devour the first kid brave enough to step outside the school doors.”
…is cooking. I promise I haven’t been sitting on my hands; writing is underway. I’ve had an opportunity to fully write and contribute to a total of four other books since The Stupendous Adventures of Mighty Marty Hayes was published. Stay tuned for more!
Little known fact: my creative writing career began with short stories and screenplays. I’ve won a handful of screenwriting awards and essay awards over the years. I recently dusted off a family drama screenplay titled Stomping Embers. I entered it into the International Screenwriting Awards Wisconsin’s Own Screenplay Competition. All good practice for pursuing an adaptation of my middle grade series.
My mentor, who I’ll call SC, is a producer with several DreamWorks Animation productions under her belt. These include: Dog Man, Kung Fu Panda 3, The Boss Baby, Trolls, How to Train Your Dragon, Spirit Untamed, and Abominable.

My Rock Retreat residency in Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory I’m fast approaching two months passing since my week-long writers and illustrators retreat in Gibraltar, on Spain’s south coast. The week in Gibraltar with co-founders Sarah Odedina and Eleanor Dobbs was a revelatory point in my creative journey.
I’m a new Poet & Author Fellow with the Martha’s Vineyard Institute of Creative Writing!
