As I look out on my snow-filled backyard, I’m taking time to reflect on my year to date. The life of a children’s book author is shaping up to be like any other career. Only 100 times better! It’s defined by diligence and hard work, and taking care to smell the roses. There’s nothing better than smiles on the faces of children and adults as they enjoy the story of The Stupendous Adventures of Mighty Marty Hayes).
Since January 1, 2019, I’ve been busy with:
- January 12 book event at Nō Studios, as a featured author
Lots of Media publicity: - Interviews with Andrea Williams appearing on five Milwaukee Radio Group stations, including The HOG and Jammin 98.3; also appearing on television stations CW18 and MY24.
- NBCNews.com article on celebrating Dr. MLK Day
- Milwaukee Journal Sentinel ’16 Books to Read in 2019’ article
- My French for Travelers class, in preparation for my fall trip to Cassis, France for my Cassis Artist Residency
- Booking Spring engagements: literacy conferences, school visits, book festivals.

In Early February, from 6th-8th, I had a chance to rub shoulders with NY Times and award-winning authors Kwame Alexander, Bethany Hegedus and Matt de la Pena during the Wisconsin State Reading Association convention. I was thrilled to present: “Using our Superpowers: the Wonder of Children’s Books Reflecting All Children.” I’m proud to add my voice among advocates of children’s literature shouting about the need for all kids to see themselves within the pages of a book. This is vital for self-esteem and to develop a positive world view of their fellow citizens.
