I’ve been busy promoting my novel, The Stupendous Adventures of Mighty Marty Hayes since December 2017. Of course, everything kicked into high gear in January when the advance reader copies were published. See my previous posts on February and March activities.
Now onto April…
Live on Today’s TMJ4 The Morning Blend
Thanks to The Morning Blend crew, I appeared on the show April 5 with hosts Molly Fay and Tiffany Ogle. They asked about a media outlet that compared The Stupendous Adventures of Mighty Marty Hayes to Black Panther and Harry Potter. I said, “I’ll take it!” That’s a huge compliment. I enjoyed my time with the talkative twosome. They are truly pros and reminded me of the two years I spent at the television station as a guest commentator on their former 3 p.m. newscast. Thanks guys for inviting me back!
Door County Appearances
I headed to Door County as a guest presenter at the Writing on the Door: Children’s Literature Conference. Organized by Writing on the Door, a five-year-old initiative celebrating writing and reading, and offering programming for kids and adults alike, the conference was brimming with talent. I was honored to present “Using your Superpower: The Audacity of Writing Children’s Books & Reflecting All Children.” I also served on two separate panels focusing on writing for children, and importance of diverse books.
Kudos to executive director Jerod Santek and the Write on the Door County Board who are responsible for bringing such an information-filled conference to eager book lovers.
I also spent nearly a week as Writer-In-Residence on the 39-acre property in Juddville, WI. I’ve now joined an impressive list of fellow authors, including Naomi Shahib Nye, Kathleen Ernst, Max Garland, and James Mihaley.
SCBWI 2018 Spring Luncheon
One of the great benefits of SCBWI membership is gathering with fellow authors and pre-published writers. We came together in Dooor County on April 8 to hear a presentation from Catherine Laudone, assistant editor for Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers.
