I was excited to share Mighty Marty Hayes and friends with book lovers at the Library of Congress’ National Book Festival.
Visitors to the International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C. can now find my novel in the museum’s gift shop.
And the Joint Conference of Librarians of Color were able to discover my story of multicultural superheroes, science and spy gadgets through advertising during their conference.
During the weekend of September 21-23, I enjoyed learning from a national faculty of authors, editors, illustrators and literary agents during the annual Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators annual fall retreat. I appreciated the book sales and signing books is always fun!
Chicago-land has been good to me.
My September appearances included an appearance at Frugal Muse Books in Darien, ILL. and at the Children’s Book Fair of Hyde Park.
I was thrilled to join No Studios in September. If you haven’t heard, Oscar winner John Ridley (12 Years a Slave, American Crime, Let It Fall) has created a gem in his hometown of Milwaukee, WI. It’s a creative collective for artists of all types with a shared workspace, opportunities to discuss their projects, collaborate, enjoy displays and performances from nationally-known artists.
On my birthday, October 4, I joined fellow author Beth Kander at Women and Children First bookstore in the Andersonville section of Chicago.
In October during launch weekend, I met John Ridley himself and introduced Mighty Marty Hayes. He was gracious and welcoming.
The weekend of October 12-14 saw me appearing at two Sheboygan area schools during the Sheboygan Children’s Book Festival. I visited about 470 schools on Friday, Horace Mann Middle School and Sheboygan Falls Middle School. On Saturday, I presented to an audience of parents, kids and festival goers of all types, followed by a book signing.
As I sit at No Studios writing this blog entry, I am preparing for a week-long artist residency at Write on the Door in Door County, WI. I hope to visit a school or two.
Thanks again to John Ridley and Chris Abele, No Studios visionaries and co-founders. I’m looking forward to the Saturday, October 20th discussion with Felicity Huffman and John Ridley.
