Toni Morrison, Great American Author

November 18, 2019

Grand dame, Toni Morrison, Great American author, recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, Nobel Prize in Literature, Presidential Medal of Freedom, along with nearly every major book award, has passed.

As an author, Ms. Morrison’s masterful manipulation of the English language is unparalleled. She unflinchingly unspooled her tales featuring characters displaying the complexities of African-Americans, politics, race relations and so much more.

Imagine my delight upon being asked at the Twin Cities Book Festival held in St. Paul, MN this past October, to share my thoughts on Ms. Morrison’s masterful work. My interviewer was Lissa Jones. Ms. Jones is host of Black Market Reads, a literary podcast sponsored by the Givens Foundation for African American Literature.

Take a listen to my thoughts at the 22:45 mark. The interview runs for 12 minutes.

If time permits, listen to the entire podcast. You won’t regret it. I would also recommend reading or re-reading Ms. Morrison’s work every chance you get.
