Women of Color Unite & DreamWorks Animation

I’m a member of Women of Color Unite, an organization of 8,000 members.

The organization defines itself as a social action organization focusing on fair access, fair treatment and fair pay for women of color in all aspects of the entertainment and media industries.
They are working hard to boost women.

One of their many services is to match women with mentors.

So, what’s the connection to The Wild Robot, the newest film from DreamWorks Animation?

I’m happy to announce my new mentor: Shabrayia Cleaver. She’s a production manager at the animation powerhouse, Dreamworks Animation!

She’s helped bring to the screen such beloved animation films as Spirit Untamed, Abominable, The Boss Baby, Trolls and Kung Fu Panda 3.

In my creative journey, a key goal for me is to bring my multicultural superheroes, CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technology, spy gadgets story to the big screen. And as I continue to create for children and adults, my stories continue to grow.

I just saw The Wild Robot, DreamWorks’ latest animated film on the big screen. Loved it. There’s a special message for mothers. Shabrayia, as part of the DreamWorks Animation family is cheering on her co-workers and their great work.

I’m finding that each step I take as a creative holds a lesson. My key takeaway is keep pushing. You never know who may be right around the corner to cheer you on and help make valuable connections.
