As I sit here reflecting on my last night here, I realize I’ll never forget this place. How do I know? I released my debut middle grade novel with my publisher on March 6. Jerod invited me to Write On’s first children’s literature conference and offered a residency.
I’m thrilled I took him up on both offers. I met Jerod, Jaime, and the wonderful Board members.
I was fully engaged for the first three days, with the Writing on the Door conference and SCBWI lunch. Then, a quiet stillness took hold and I finally found time to reflect, give thanks for all my blessings, salute all those who had a hand in my success to date with the book, and to look eagerly ahead.
I met some wonderful Door County residents, and re-engaged with a couple from the Milwaukee area.
I salute the vision and the successful implementation of the dream of Write On. You’ve truly created something special. A place with the time and space to create. A place where everyone can find the artist in his or herself.
After artist residencies on Martha’s Vineyard (twice) and in Marnay-sur-Seine, France, I can truly say this place rivals each of these in spirit and care for residents.
I look forward to your future expansion. Carry on! I hope to return soon!
